Electrical diagrams & inspection preparation
An electrical installation must be properly documented so that its diagrams match the actual situation.
KHOMELEC produces and updates electrical diagrams for existing or modified installations and can carry out a full survey of the installation when documents are missing or incomplete.
These documents can be used to prepare the electrical file before a possible visit from an accredited inspection body.
The single-line diagram
The single-line diagram shows the overall structure of the electrical installation.
It includes the circuits, the protection devices, the types of wiring systems and conductors, and the main items connected to each circuit.
The diagram makes it possible to identify:
- The circuits
- The associated protection devices
- The conductor cross-sections
- The main equipment
- The overall layout of the electrical panel
The position plan
The position plan shows where the various elements of the installation are located in the building.
For example:
- Sockets
- Switches
- Light points
- Fixed appliances
- Electrical panels
- Other electrical elements in the installation
The references used on the position plan must match the circuits shown on the single-line diagram.
No longer have the diagrams for your installation?
Many older installations no longer have diagrams, or have documents that no longer match the current situation.
KHOMELEC can survey the existing installation to reconstruct the diagrams based on the actual situation.
Depending on the size and complexity of the installation, the survey may require several checks on site.
Survey steps
- Identifying the circuits at the panel
- Locating the protection devices
- Identifying sockets, light points and equipment
- Matching circuits to the various elements
- Recording the configuration of the installation
- Drawing up the single-line diagram
- Drawing up the position plan
Has work been done since your old diagrams?
When an installation is modified, its documents must remain consistent with the actual situation.
KHOMELEC can update existing diagrams after circuits or equipment have been added, removed or modified.
For example after:
- Adding a circuit
- Modifying the electrical panel
- Adding sockets
- New lighting
- Adding a fixed appliance
- Partially renovating an installation
How does the on-site survey work?
The time required depends on the size of the installation, the number of circuits and how easily they can be identified.
- Review of existing documents, if available
- Check of the electrical panel
- Locating the circuits
- Identifying the electrical elements
- Checking which circuits serve which rooms
- Organising the collected information
- Producing the final diagrams
Preparing the file before an inspection
Before an accredited inspection body visits, the diagrams must match the actual installation.
KHOMELEC can check that the documents are consistent, complete or update the diagrams and prepare the documentation for the installation.
KHOMELEC does not carry out the official regulatory inspection. It is performed by an independent accredited inspection body.
Frequently asked questions
I don’t have any diagrams for my installation. Can you produce them?
Yes. KHOMELEC can survey the existing installation to identify the circuits and produce the single-line diagram and the position plan.
My diagrams are old. Do they need to be redone completely?
Not necessarily. If they are still usable, they can be updated to match the current situation.
Does the power need to be switched off to produce the diagrams?
Some checks may require circuits to be switched off briefly so they can be identified correctly. It depends on the installation.
Can you do only the diagrams, without carrying out any work?
Yes. Producing or updating the diagrams can be offered as a separate service, depending on the condition and complexity of the installation.
Does KHOMELEC then carry out the official inspection?
No. KHOMELEC produces the diagrams and prepares the documentation. The official inspection is carried out by an independent accredited inspection body.
Does your installation also have non-compliances?
If your installation needs to be brought into compliance, or you have received an inspection report listing non-compliances, see our dedicated page on RGIE electrical compliance.
Need diagrams for your electrical installation?
KHOMELEC carries out surveys and produces single-line diagrams and position plans for existing or modified installations.
