RGIE electrical compliance upgrades
An electrical installation may show breaches of the Belgian General Regulations on Electrical Installations (RGIE) following an inspection, a sale, a renovation or changes made over the years. KHOMELEC reviews the findings, carries out the necessary work, performs preparatory checks and gets the installation ready for the visit of an independent accredited inspection body.
KHOMELEC is not an accredited inspection body. We carry out the work and prepare your installation. The official inspection and the compliance report are issued exclusively by an accredited body.
When does an installation need to be brought up to standard?
Several situations can call for corrections to an installation. Each case is different and does not automatically lead to a new inspection.
- Inspection report listing breaches
- Older installation
- Installation modified over the years
- Purchase of a home with electrical remarks
- Major renovation
- Extension or significant modification of the installation
- Consumer unit that needs adapting
- Missing or unsuitable residual current devices
- Earthing problems
- Missing or insufficient equipotential bonding
- Faulty circuits
- Electrical diagrams missing or no longer matching the installation
Checking the installation before the inspection
KHOMELEC can carry out a preparatory check of your installation to identify what needs correcting before the accredited body visits.
- Visual check of the consumer unit
- Checking circuit breaker ratings
- Checking conductor cross-sections
- Checking residual current devices
- Checking circuit labelling
- Checking continuity of protective conductors
- Checking the earthing
- Checking equipotential bonding
- Checking bathroom circuits and other special locations
- Looking for visible or measurable anomalies
- Checking that the actual installation matches the diagrams
These checks help prepare the installation. They are not the official regulatory inspection.
Earth and insulation measurements
KHOMELEC can take preliminary measurements to identify potential problems before the accredited body visits.
Earth measurement
Measuring the earth electrode resistance shows whether the earthing has a value compatible with the installation and the protective devices in place.
Insulation measurement
An insulation measurement detects certain faults between live conductors and earth and helps identify circuits that may have an insulation problem.
Depending on the situation
- Continuity testing of protective conductors
- Testing residual current devices where relevant
- Targeted electrical checks on specific circuits
During the official inspection, the accredited body carries out its own checks and measurements in accordance with the RGIE. KHOMELEC’s measurements are used to prepare the installation and detect possible anomalies in advance.
Single-line diagram and layout plan
The file for a domestic electrical installation includes a single-line diagram and a layout plan that match the actual installation.
When these documents are missing, incomplete or no longer match the installation, KHOMELEC can survey the installation and draw up or update the necessary diagrams.
Electrical diagramsSingle-line diagram
Shows the circuits, protective devices, cable sizes and main components of the installation.
Layout plan
Shows where sockets, switches, light points and other electrical components are located.
Already have a report listing breaches?
If you already have an inspection report, KHOMELEC can review the remarks made by the accredited body and determine the work needed to bring the installation up to standard.
Send my inspection reportSteps
- Send us the report
- Review of the breaches
- Check of the installation if needed
- Definition of the work required
- Corrections
- Preparatory checks
- New visit by the accredited body
The corrections we can carry out
Depending on the breaches found and the condition of the installation, the work may include:
- Adapting or replacing the consumer unit
- Adding or replacing residual current devices
- Adapting overcurrent protection
- Correcting non-compliant circuits
- Correcting unsuitable cable sizes or protective devices
- Bringing the earthing up to standard
- Installing or correcting equipotential bonding
- Correcting bathroom circuits
- Labelling circuits
- Updating the diagrams
- Replacing faulty or unsuitable electrical equipment
The scope of work depends on each installation: some breaches can be fixed with targeted corrections, others require more extensive work.
How does bringing an installation up to standard work?
Only the accredited inspection body can issue the official report and confirm that the installation complies with the regulations.
- Review of the report or check of the installation
- Identification of the work
- Carrying out the corrections
- Drawing up or updating the diagrams
- Preparatory measurements and checks
- Preparing the file
- Visit by the accredited inspection body
- Official report issued by the accredited body
How long do you have to bring the installation up to standard?
The deadline depends on the type of inspection and the situation of the installation.
After certain inspections that found breaches, a follow-up visit must take place within the period set by the RGIE and stated on the inspection report.
For certain sales of older domestic installations, a specific deadline may also apply.
The deadline stated on the inspection report should always be taken as the reference.
Frequently asked questions
Does KHOMELEC carry out the official RGIE inspection?
No. KHOMELEC is an electrical contractor. We carry out the work, the diagrams and the preparatory checks. The official regulatory inspection is carried out only by an independent accredited inspection body.
Can you measure the earth before the inspection?
Yes. A preliminary measurement can check the earth electrode value and detect a problem before the accredited body visits. The accredited body still takes its own measurements during the official inspection.
Can you carry out an insulation measurement?
Yes. An insulation measurement can be carried out to detect certain electrical faults before the inspection. This preparatory measurement does not replace the measurements taken by the accredited body.
Can you draw up the electrical diagrams?
Yes. KHOMELEC can draw up or update the single-line diagram and the layout plan so that they match the existing installation.
Do I have to redo my whole installation if the report is negative?
Not necessarily. It depends on the breaches found and the overall condition of the installation. Some installations need targeted corrections, others more extensive work.
Who issues the compliance report?
The official report is issued exclusively by the accredited inspection body that carries out the regulatory inspection.
Received a report listing breaches?
Send us your inspection report. KHOMELEC can review the remarks, carry out the corrections, perform the preparatory checks and get your installation ready for the accredited body’s visit.
