Repeated power cuts: replacing a damaged electrical cable

Fault finding • Technical intervention

The client was experiencing frequent power cuts. Abnormal heating had also been noticed at a specific spot on the floor, reaching around 40°C.

After several tests and checks, we identified the source of the problem: an unsuitable, damaged electrical cable running under the floor.

Power cuts and abnormal heating

The client regularly experienced power cuts. At the same time, a specific area of the floor was heating up abnormally.

After several checks, measurements and investigations, the results pointed the diagnosis towards a faulty embedded cable.

In-depth fault finding

The measurements carried out made it possible to locate the affected area and identify the cable as the probable cause of the heating and power cuts.

To reach the relevant part of the installation, access through a vertical technical shaft from the roof was required.

Accessing the technical shaft from the roof

Extracting the cable required access to a vertical technical shaft from the building’s roof.

The intervention therefore called for specific preparation and suitable equipment in order to work in safe conditions.

A prepared and secured intervention

Before working in the shaft, the technician was fitted with the protective equipment required for this type of access.

This step was part of preparing the intervention and made it possible to reach the work area in good conditions.

A heavily damaged cable

When the cable was extracted, we found that it was heavily damaged and showed visible burn marks.

This finding confirmed the results of the earlier diagnosis.

Replacing the faulty section

The faulty section of cable under the floor was removed and replaced with a cable suited to the installation.

The aim was to eliminate the cause of the heating, restore normal operation of the installation and secure the circuit concerned.

Result

  • Power cuts eliminated
  • Abnormal heating eliminated
  • Damaged cable replaced
  • Electrical installation secured
